Description

Doxycycline 100 mg Injection is a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the tetracycline class, used for treating severe bacterial infections when oral administration is not feasible. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, effectively stopping the growth and spread of bacteria.

Composition:

• Doxycycline Hyclate (IP/USP) – 100 mg (per vial)

Indications:

• Severe Respiratory Infections (e.g., pneumonia, bronchitis)

• Intra-abdominal Infections

• Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

• Severe Skin and Soft Tissue Infections

• Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) (e.g., syphilis, gonorrhea)

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults & Children (>45 kg): 100 mg every 12 hours on the first day, followed by 100 mg daily or as prescribed.

• Severe Infections: 200 mg/day in divided doses.

• Route of Administration: Intravenous (IV) slow infusion over 1-4 hours.

• Preparation: Reconstitute with sterile water for injection as per guidelines before administration.

Precautions and Warnings:

• Not suitable for children under 8 years (risk of permanent teeth discoloration).

• Avoid use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

• Administer slowly to prevent thrombophlebitis.

• Photosensitivity: Advise patients to avoid prolonged sun exposure.

• Monitor in patients with hepatic dysfunction.
