Description
Meropenem 1000mg + Sulbactam 500mg Injection is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat severe and complicated bacterial infections. Meropenem is a carbapenem antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, while Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that enhances Meropenem’s efficacy against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria.
Composition:
- Meropenem – 1000 mg (1 g)
- Sulbactam – 500 mg
Indications:
This injection is effective against:
- Complicated Intra-Abdominal Infections
- Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia (HAP)
- Complicated Urinary Tract Infections (cUTI)
- Sepsis and Septicemia
- Skin and Soft Tissue Infections
- Respiratory Tract Infections
- Post-Surgical Infections
Dosage and Administration:
✅ Route of Administration:
- Intravenous (IV) Infusion – Over 15-30 minutes
- Intravenous (IV) Bolus – Over 3-5 minutes
✅ Dosage Guidelines:
- Adults & Adolescents: 1 gm Meropenem + 500 mg Sulbactam every 8 hours
- Severe Infections: Up to 2 gm Meropenem + 1 gm Sulbactam every 8 hours
Note: Dosage adjustments may be needed for patients with renal impairment.
Precautions and Warnings:
- Hypersensitivity: Avoid in patients allergic to penicillins, cephalosporins, or carbapenems.
- Renal Impairment: Dose adjustments are required in patients with kidney dysfunction.
- Seizure Risk: Monitor patients with a history of epilepsy or CNS disorders.
- Pregnancy & Lactation: Use only if needed under medical supervision.
