Description
Iron Sucrose Injection (5 ml) is an intravenous (IV) iron supplement used to treat iron deficiency anaemia (IDA), especially in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). It is highly effective in replenishing iron stores and improving haemoglobin levels when oral iron therapy is ineffective or not tolerated.
Composition:
- Iron Sucrose – 100 mg/5 ml (equivalent to 20 mg/ml of elemental iron)

Dosage and Administration:

Adults and Elderly:

Usual dose: 100 mg (5 ml) by slow intravenous infusion.

Frequency: Administer 1-3 times a week or as per physician’s direction.

Administration Methods:

Intravenous Infusion (Preferred Method): Dilute 5 ml in 100 ml of 0.9% saline and infuse over 15-30 minutes.

IV Slow Injection: Administer undiluted over 5 minutes.

- Hypersensitivity Risk: Monitor for anaphylactic reactions.
- Renal Impairment: Use with caution and monitor renal function.
